Rare vintage basket with cowrie shells, grass and leather trim from Nigeria. These were used for storage and called the money basket. Cowrie shells at one time were used as currency up to the mid 19th Century. Shells were hand sewn on and each is unique in design. This basket would make a beautiful planter.
